Design Process

Alex, our head designer will be in regular contact from start to finish during your garden transformation journey. With regular meetings along the way, you'll see your new garden design evolve as we get to know you. We can even source your contractors and project manage until the very end.

1. Consultation and site survey

Following a complimentary phone call to explore your requirements, your garden transformation begins with an on-site consultation. Our head designer will personally visit to explore your ideas and aspirations for your outdoor space. Gaining a thorough understanding of how you intend to use your garden throughout the year is crucial to creating a design that meets your needs.

During the visit, a site survey will be conducted to model your garden within our design software, identifying any areas that may require specialist input during the construction and implementation phase.

Following the visit, we will provide a comprehensive written brief outlining the proposed design direction, fee structure, and contract. This brief will recap our discussions, ensuring we are aligned on all details from the very beginning.

From £599 depending on location. Initial consultation is charged separately to design fees.

2. Concept design

After modeling your existing garden, we strip everything back and begin crafting designs for your new space. These designs are presented in both 2D and 3D formats, providing a clear visual of what can be achieved, with a focus on the general layout and hard landscaping during this stage. Mood boards are incorporated to help develop a cohesive material and planting scheme aligned with your vision. Once the concept design is finalised, we move forward into the most detailed phase of the project.

Once the first installment of your design fees is received, we aim to have completed the concept design within 6 weeks.

3. Developed Design

This is where we bring your new garden vision to life. Using ultra-realistic CGI software, we provide the ability to visualise how your garden will look throughout different seasons and times of day, ensuring we are on track to create a space you will truly love.

Additionally, we include night-time imagery to demonstrate how strategically placed lighting can enhance your garden. At this stage, adjustments to the layout and planting schemes can be made until you are completely satisfied. Our 3D imagery provides a highly realistic representation of what can be achieved in your outdoor space.

Developed design imagery usually follows an agreed concept design in 6-8 weeks

4. Technical Design

Once you are fully satisfied with every element of your new garden design, we will begin preparing the blueprints and construction guides to ensure the seamless implementation of the project. These are meticulously reviewed and approved by one of our in-house contractors.

Technical drawings usually follow an agreed masterplan within 4-6 weeks, depending on the scale of the project.

5. Planting Plans

You will have already received ultra-realistic CGI imagery of every planted space in your design. During this phase of the project, we produce detailed 2D layout plans of each area, accompanied by comprehensive lists of every plant used, including total quantities required.

Additionally, our acclaimed Care Guides will provide you with expert advice on how to care for every plant in your new garden. Should you opt for our optional Planting Service, we will supply every plant featured in your design, along with all the necessary compost, topsoil, and fertiliser for the first few years.

All plants are sourced from reputable, high-quality nurseries and are delivered as established specimens in at least 2-3 litre pots for perennials, and no less than 5L pots for shrubs.

alternatively, you are welcome to approach your local nursery to provide you with the plants used in the design.

Optional Planting Service

For your peace of mind, we provide all the plants for your new garden design. Each plant comes with a five-year guarantee and is supplied as an established specimen.

As part of our comprehensive service, we personally plant all shrubs and perennials, providing the necessary compost, screened topsoil, and fertiliser to ensure the healthy growth of your garden during its critical early years.

6. Design documents and contractor sourcing

You will receive a downloadable PDF version of your plans, along with a printed booklet sent by post. Should you choose to appoint your own contractor, these documents can be handed over for them to work from.

If you would prefer us to source contractors on your behalf, this can be added to your project as an optional extra. We will gather quotes from our trusted network of tradespeople to implement your new garden design.

We also offer a full project management service to oversee the entire build of your new garden. Fees for this service are listed on our "prices" page.

Our commonly asked questions...

How do I enquire about your bespoke garden design service?

The easiest way to get started is by sending us an email outlining your general requirements. At this stage, it is helpful to include details such as the size of your garden (and any photos, if available), your timeline, and your location. From there, our Head Designer will be in direct contact with you to address any questions and provide a clear understanding of the next steps.

As our team is frequently on-site rather than in the office, we kindly request that initial enquiries be made via email. Following this, we can arrange a phone call to discuss your project in further detail.

How much does your garden design service cost?

Our 'design-only' service starts from £5,999 for gardens up to 200sqm, with prices increasing based on the size and complexity of the site. This fee provides you with a fully comprehensive design experience, including ultra-realistic CGI visuals of your new garden.

We offer unlimited design drafts to ensure we create a design you are completely satisfied with. Planting plans, planting guides, plant care schedules, and detailed construction guides are all included as standard. These can be provided to your contractor to follow, bringing your new garden to life. Design fees will vary according to size and complexity, such as sloping or irregular plots. For more details, please refer to our 'Prices' guide.

How realistic are your images and videos?

Our cutting-edge rendering software enables you to visualise exactly how your garden will look once the plants reach maturity. We can easily swap and adjust various hard materials, such as different types of paving from a range of manufacturers, and experiment with different plants to create the perfect atmosphere.

Additionally, we produce highly realistic walk-through videos of your new design, allowing you to experience how each area of your garden will feel at different times of the day.

Do you carry out the landscaping yourself or outsource to a different contractor?

We have collaborated with numerous skilled landscapers over the years, successfully bringing our designs to life. Through these partnerships, we have built a trusted network of talented and reliable tradespeople. While we do not carry out the landscaping ourselves, we are more than happy to source contractors on your behalf.

Additionally, we can offer full project management of the landscaping phase, which includes regular site visits and final sign-off upon completion. Contractor sourcing and project management services are available as optional extras. Further details can be found on our 'Prices' page.

How long does a garden design take to produce?

With our detailed and comprehensive design service, the average project turnaround time is typically between 16 and 20 weeks. However, many of our projects are completed well within this timeframe. When a project extends beyond the 20-week target, it is often due to the complexity of the plot, such as sloped or particularly large gardens.

How long does the landscaping take?

Once your design is finalised and you have received the design documents, you are welcome to approach your contractors for quotes, or we can handle this on your behalf. In our experience, reputable landscapers are often booked several months in advance, so we recommend contacting them as we begin the design phase.

If you would prefer us to manage this process, we can liaise with landscapers from our list of trusted tradespeople, keeping them informed throughout the design process to ensure they are prepared to start when the plans are finalised. Should you wish us to source contractors or project manage the landscaping, these services are available as optional extras.

How much does the initial consultation cost?

Our initial consultation is completely free of charge. Once you have made an enquiry with our front-of-house team, our head designer will be in touch via email to schedule a telephone call. During this call, we will discuss your requirements in detail to ensure we are the right fit for your project and address any questions you may have.

Should you decide to proceed, the initial site visit and survey are charged from £699, depending on the location and complexity of the site. This fee reflects the significant amount of work involved, especially when we return to the drawing room to compile detailed plans and images to model your garden.

Do you cover all parts of the UK?

We have designed gardens from Worthing in the south to Edinburgh in the north, and we are always happy to travel to new locations further afield. While site visits to more distant locations will understandably incur a slightly higher cost due to additional travel, all other chargeable aspects of the project remain consistent.

What size gardens do you design?

We take pride in designing gardens of all shapes, sizes, and styles. Often, we are approached by owners of modest-sized new-build gardens, which provide a blank canvas that holds no boundaries for our creativity. Equally, we are frequently approached by owners of more complex and established gardens. While these can present unique challenges, they are just as rewarding. We have also designed expansive gardens spanning multiple acres, including one current project involving a smallholding with a large kitchen garden, farmyard, and various garden areas featuring different styles.

How are the design fees paid?

The initial visit and site survey are payable upfront and must be cleared prior to our appointment with you. Design fees are structured in instalments, due at key milestones throughout the project. We accept BACS payments, and a receipt will be issued for each instalment received.
